Moving Ahead

In their Unit of Inquiry sessions, students used their thinking skills to analyse the pros and cons of different types of governments using graphic organisers like the Venn diagram. They used the link (given below) to do map marking and explored the different countries, their position and type of government. Students also got acquainted with the role of government in the field of art, music and physical education. They reflected on their learning journey through this unit and shared their new understanding. Students developed their social skills by working creatively in groups to conduct role plays showing the functioning of government. They gained an in depth understanding by sharing their views and opinion about the changing world with respect to the forms of government. They debated about the features of an ideal form of government and also read various newspaper articles related to their unit. A spell bee activity  strengthened their vocabulary related to the unit.

In Math class, students researched on different multiplication strategies and presented them  to their peers. They recapitulated the times table and solved multiplication word problems. Students learned to estimate products. They solved SUDOKU from the newspaper which helped to build focus. Students then focused on the operation of subtraction – they reinforced vocabulary, solved sums and word problems. Students developed a checklist for creation of their own word problems. They also solved mixed word problems using ‘Claim support and reflect’ strategy.

 

During Hindi classes, the students read and discussed on the samvad ‘Shiksha ka adhikar’, and then they engaged in a debate to enhance their listening and speaking skills.Children learned a poem on ‘Raja ne aadesh diya’ and understood its meaning too.They also identified verbs being used in the poem, and wrote sentences. Then they formed questions on the poem and answered them.

Students summarized their understanding of the poem in 5-8 sentences to enhance their writing skills.

The objective of the French lesson was to self-assess the homework related to the verbs- ETRE and AVOIR. It encouraged student involvement and participation as they discussed and corrected their work under teacher guidance thereby developing their social and communication skills.

During their Spanish classes, students peer assessed homework which enabled them to identify common errors and develop their social skills. Students also learned a new verb ‘tener’ and its use in different situations, thereby enhancing their communication in Spanish.

Students discussed different folk arts of India during Art classes. They researched on Indian folk art and artists. They also started creating a composition on the same.

 

For ICT lessons, students used various secondary research tools to learn about Digital India, Aadhar card/UIDAI. They collated this information on MS Word. To present this information students are making a PowerPoint presentation. In the coming classes, they will focus on citation using MLA (Modern Library Association) format.

 

Students continued with swimming classes during Physical Education classes. They practised backstroke for swimming lessons and they also participated in the 2nd Inter school Swimming Tournament.

During Dance classes, students were taught how to use the technical elements they have learned so far using a dance routine combining various movement and rhythm patterns.

Students were divided in groups and allotted a topic to present in terms of movement to understand the concept of improvisation and creation.

 

The library sessions this month saw students explore and exchange books. It was encouraging to see them develop interest in non-fiction genres. They were educated to appreciate diversity and concurrency in literature and show preference for a variety of literature that would enrich their academic writing.
